Location N 41°33'37" W 8°26'21"
Useful Information
ScheduleFrom 10:00 to 4:00 pm.

Visits by appointment to the Mosteiro of Tibães.

This chapel is a unique example of the Roman-Byzantine art in the country and is considered one of the most fascinating monuments of high medieval age of the Iberian Peninsula.

The construction date is unclear. If for some time it was thought to be facing the chapel-mausoleum of San Frutuoso, today are stronger the arguments that point to a chronology around the beginning of the X century, when the cult bishop was renovated in the context of Afonso III repopulating. The Convent of San Francisco, of the seventeenth century, kept the chapel as an attachment. It presents a centralized plant, four apsis articulated around a quadrangular cross.
