The NORTH MONASTERIES-Arouca, Grijó, Rendufe, Tibães, Pombeiro and Vilar de Frades - included in the candidacy constitute an important legacy of monastic religious architecture in the north of Portugal. They are classified as National Monuments or Real Estate of Public Interest, and for that reason priority is their preservation, valorization and dissemination. Simultaneously, they have a strong presence in the territory, and they constitute attractive poles of attractiveness in the rural and urban landscape where they are located, due to their proximity to the respective urban centers of Arouca, Vila Nova de Gaia, Amares, Braga, Felgueiras And Barcelos. They are mainly Benedictine monasteries, with the exception of the Monastery of Grijó, Arouca and Vilar de Frades, which obeyed the rule of St º. Augustine, of St. John the Evangelist, and of Cister.

The implementation of the MOSTEIROS A NORTE network is to continue the consolidation of the building, improving and creating reception / reception spaces, articulating with the reinforcement of cultural and artistic initiatives (creation of monastic composition / landscape and interpretation cycle Itinerant in the monasteries) and of spreading the monastic spaces as poles of attraction in the territory and consequent increase of the number of visitors and creation of new publics. The purpose of this operation is to privilege the enjoyment and enjoyment of cultural heritage as a thematic network of great patrimonial value resulting from the deepening of the interpretation of the visitation paths, through the photographic and video records of the interventions carried out, the creation of multimedia supports and the production of leaflets As fundamental elements to accompany the visitors of this cultural itinerary.
